Marcel Jean
Executive director
Marcel Jean has been Executive Director of the Cinémathèque québécoise since May 2015, and has also been the Artistic Director of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival since 2012. He directed the documentary program at the Institut national de l’image et du son (L'inis) from 2012 to 2014. He taught criticism and film history and aesthetics at the Université de Montréal from 1986 to 2013. Mr. Jean is also the author of several works on cinema. The most recent, Le Dictionnaire des films québécois, was published by Éditions Somme Toute.
From 1999 to 2005, he headed the animation studio in the National Film Board’s French-language division, where the films he produced won more than 150 international awards. He is closely involved with the cultural sector, serving as vice-president at Les éditions Les 400 coups and at Québec Cinéma. He currently serves on the board of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and is chair of the board at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
In June 2018, he received an honorary doctorate from Université Savoie Mont Blanc in recognition of his exceptional professional and intellectual achievements and his commitment to cinema.

Jacynthe Lefebvre holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations from the Université de Montréal and is a certified human resources professional with membership in the Ordre des Conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (CRHA). She worked as a recruiter for a placement agency before joining the human resources team at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, one of Quebec’s leading cultural institutions. She has been the Cinémathèque’s head of human resources since 2012.

Isabelle Jalbert has long been part of the cultural scene, from her youthful experiences as an usher at the Ouimetoscope to her recent arrival at the Cinémathèque.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from UQAM, she participated in the Symposium de Baie-Saint-Paul in 1994, as well as several group and solo shows. She worked at Galerie Graff and organized a conference on Quebec’s collective printmaking studios. She left the visual arts for the performing arts, working as head of communications and media relations for Usine C until 2000. During those same years she went on tour with Carbone 14 for the final performances of Âmes mortes.
After joining the cultural advertising agency Publicité Sauvage in 2001 as a sales representative, she rose to the position of general manager. After ten years in that role, she became Vice-President and a shareholder from 2015 to 2020. Among other things, she negotiated a partnership with BAnQ for the legal deposit of posters.
Endlessly inquisitive, in 2019 she earned a double executive master of business administration (EMBA) from ESG-UQAM and Université Paris-Dauphine. She is also a member of the board of Diffusion Momentum.

Marina Gallet is the director of conservation and collections development at the Cinémathèque québécoise. She has worked for more than ten years in audio-visual heritage preservation and exhibition, and takes a particular interest in open access to culture.
She joined the Cinémathèque québécoise team in 2012 after working on archival digitization and exhibition projects with several Canadian contemporary dance centres, and started work on a doctoral dissertation on digital aesthetics and the humanities at Université Rennes 2 in France. She holds two masters degrees: one in audio-visual heritage management ** from the INA-Institut National de l’Audiovisuel in France and the other in the **art and science of art – design, media, technology from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications.
In 2017, she implemented the Savoirs Communs du cinéma initiative, designed to foster openness and the free licensing and public sharing of cinema data and archives. Since then, Ms. Gallet has been a guest speaker at numerous conferences in Canada and abroad, where she has spoken about issues particular to digital content in the cultural sphere.

Since 1990, Guillaume Lafleur has published more than a hundred articles and essays on contemporary cinema, Quebec cinema history, experimental film and film aesthetics. In 2004 he received the Prix Pierre-et-Yolande-Perrault, presented by the AIEQ, for his research on documentary cinema. He holds a doctorate in comparative literature from the Université de Montréal, where he taught film history and film analysis from 2003 to 2008.
He then became more actively involved in film exhibition, first as artistic director for Antitube, then as executive and artistic director of the Daïmôn artist-run centre, where he supervised residencies, media-arts performances and a substantial program focusing on documentary and experimental film. Between 2013 and 2015 he launched and led three symposia in Gatineau and Montreal dedicated to experimental cinema and video art. He served on the boards of the Alliance des arts médiatiques indépendants (2010-2013) and the cultural magazine Spirale (2016-2019). Mr. Lafleur joined the Cinémathèque québécoise team in 2014, first as programmer-curator. He became director of programming in 2017.
In 2015, he published Pratiques minoritaires, fragments d’une histoire méconnue du cinéma québécois (1937-1973) (Varia). In 2020 he co-edited, with Ralph Elawani, XPQ, traversée du cinéma expérimental québécois (Somme toute/Cinémathèque québécoise).

Marie-Christine Picard has worked in the world of auteur cinema for more than 20 years. After studying literature and film at Université Paris 3, she began her career in the distribution of art and experimental films in France, while also working on target-audience promotion of films such as Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (Claude Berri) and Cyrano de Bergerac (Jean-Paul Rappeneau).
From the opening of Excentris in 1999 until 2009, she was in charge of the venue’s regular, event and youth film programming. She was also a programmer for Cinéma du Parc and the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. In 2009, when the Excentris theatres transitioned to new management, she joined the** Cinéma Parallèle** team as director of operations, remaining in that position until December 2015. In February 2014, she launched Canada’s first virtual online movie theatre, in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada. She joined the Cinémathèque team in February 2016.
She was an external marketing analyst for SODEC and a director of Vidéographe for four years, and currently serves on the board of Communications et Société and Voies culturelles des Faubourgs.
