Lecture by Antonio Nicaso, historian and mafia specialist
To introduce the cycle, a lecture by a Mafia historian sets the tone. How does cinema relate to a certain Mafia mythology ? To what degree does it detach itself from it, or portray it in its most complex and troubled aspects ? The answer in fourteen films.
We are pleased to welcome Antonio Nicaso, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal. A historian specializing in the mafia, he has analyzed the functioning of the mafia in the era of globalization, as well as the specificities of the North American mafia, notably in his book devoted to Vito Rizzuto (Business or Blood: Mafia Boss Vito Rizzuto's Last War), adapted into a series under the title Bad Blood. This makes him the ideal speaker to inaugurate our Ciné-mafia cycle, just before the screening of Goodfellas by Martin Scorsese.
The conference will be held in English only.
