The Tënk platform, in partnership with the Centre Art et Essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise and the Consulate General of France in Quebec City, is pleased to unveil a new series of screenings: Conversations françaises. Every last Friday of the month, discover the great voices of contemporary French documentary cinema. Each screening will be followed by a virtual discussion with the filmmaker. A unique opportunity to meet today's great French documentary filmmakers!

The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

Synopsis

In Lussas, in the South of France, a small group has gathered in the old village grocery store. Among the fields of vines and cherry trees in bloom, the enterprise that is being prepared there is quite singular for the rural world: to create an ultra-modern platform for the diffusion of documentary films on the Internet.

Claire Simon' Biography

French filmmaker born in London, Claire Simon started her carrier by making some short documentaries in the style of cinéma direct, such as « Coûte que coûte » (1995) and « Récréations » (1998) both awarded many times. She wrote and directed three fiction feature films, all presented at Cannes’ Docfortnight: “Sinon oui” (1997), “Ça brûle” (2005) and “Les bureaux de Dieu” Grand Prix de la Sacd” (2008). She directed “Gare du Nord” (2013), which premiered at Locarno festival, “Le bois dont les rêves sont faits” (2016) Locarno festival as well and The Competition (Le concours) (2017), which premiered at Venice International Film Festival and won the prize for best documentary. In 2018, her film Young Solitudes (Premières Solitudes) was selected at the Berlinale Forum.
